DG8 - Plug-In Version comes with it's own plug-in wiring harness, so there's no wires to find or solder - it plugs right into the back of your speedo/tach assembly.

Once installed, you just need to program it for your bike - either by riding or on a stand.
If your bike is not listed, there is not a plug-in solution for your bike available at this time. So you need to order the regular DG8 Digital Gear Indictor that is wired in - full instructions for all bikes are included in the package.

Pros: more accurate than i anticipated. sometimes takes a second or two to recognize and display the current gear after shifting, but sometimes it's right away. not usually in a rush anyway, and the delay is only slight. matches my bikes display color about as close as i could want. wiring harness that was included was well constructed and lengthed just about perfectly. whole unit is small, but the display lights up big and clear. looks nice and clean.
Cons: teaching it is kind of a pain. you have to shift through all the gears while driving. i did this in my apartment complexes street. wasn't a big deal until i was about to go to 6th gear approaching a left turn. luckily it learned 6th gear with just enough room to slam on the brakes and make the turn. give yourself a nice, long, straightaway. for my application, there weren't many good places to secure it. i got it secured, but not as i would have liked. of course, that will depend on your bike and the room around the cluster.
overall, extremely satisfied. would highly recommend. extremely useful and looks good too.
