Pros: I've tried SHIFT and ICON riding jeans and I'd rank the Alpinestar Maxx jeans on top. In terms of comfort, none are comfortable out of the box. You will want to wash them to soften up the denim as they are thicker than casual jeans. The thing that stands out with the Maxx jeans are the removable leg armor. This is something that both the SHIFT and ICON jeans lack. What they call "reinforced" areas are nothing more than double stitched, whether kevlar reinforced or other.
What made me pick these up is Alpinestars reputation for their racewear. These are a great alternative to wearing full leathers on the street. Don't know where you are heading? Long ride exploring new roads for new twisties? Don't know if you will drop down on a knee and drag? Little terrorizing of the streets throwing it up on one? Throw on your favorite leather jacket, boots, gloves, lid along with these jeans. They will handle what you throw at it. Stick on a pair of pucks on if you want.
Cons: Expensive. I'd love to see a street jean with these features in the $85 range.
