great construction but lacking in a few key areas |
By Eric from Charleston, WV on 06/23/2008
Pros: Buttery soft leather and gives a wonderful level of feel at the bars. Easy to take on and off due to the single strap system. They do actually breath better than I expected. Great glove for the money
Cons: The index and ring fingers were a bit long compared to my last pair of glove (AGV Tornado's) so it struck the brake lever at its old position when reaching for the front brake. After a quick adjustment of the brake lever, it was no problem though. My bigest problem though is that these gloves do not have a wrist strap in conjunction with the primary closure so your fingers sometimes don't stay seated in the glove as I would like.
Sizing Info: Fits true to size
Additional Sizing Notes: As any good piece of leather riding apparel, it fits snug at first but will relax over time. This seems to be especially pronounced with alpinestars products though.
Comments: I was kind of leary about the white fingers on the gloves as my suit is black, grey, and silver but it sets it off nicely. The first thing you notice as soon as you take them out of the bag is the... (Read the rest of this review)

Alpinestars SP-2 gauntlet style gloves. |
By Parabellum from Midwest, USA on 05/01/2008
Pros: This is a great street glove for the rider who is looking for the protection of a gauntlet style glove, but doesn't have the $200-$300 for a set of truly race worthy gloves. These gloves have thick material and padding where its needed, generous gauntlet overlap so you can fasten them over the cuff of any riding jacket, and carbon fiber knuckle guards.
I have already lowsided in a pair Alpinestars gloves offering less protection than these, and the gloves did their job, they saved my hands. I am confident that these gloves will offer adequate protection for the street rider, as long as the speeds are kept within reason.
Cons: The only "con" to these gloves is that, in my opinion, they are not race worthy. I fully believe these gloves will do their job at street speeds (70mph and less) but at track speeds (130+) I would want something with thicker leather, possibly kangaroo hide.
Also, they do not breathe that well...that is a great plus in cold weather, but a minus in hot weather. I wear these gloves as long as the temps are below 80f....above 80f I have another pair of Alpinestars gloves that are well vented and keep the hands much cooler.
Sizing Info: Fits true to size
Additional Sizing Notes: I have long fingers and this glove in a Large fits me just about perfectly.
Comments: Like all the Alpinestars gloves I have owned, these are well made, they look good, and since I have personally crash tested Alpinestars gloves in the past, I am confident in their protection.

Pros: great looking glove. very comfortable to wear.
Cons: the cuff is tight and it takes me a while to work it over my jacket. i amost half to ride with it unvelcroed. No strp directly across the wrist.
Sizing Info: Fits true to size
Additional Sizing Notes: Cuff loosens after breaking in.
Comments: overall - the glove looks great and the carbon fiber nuckles are very safe, although, without a wrist strap and having to wear them loosely to go over my jacket, i do have some doubts.
