great helmet overall; a bit pricey and noisy |
By Andy from Denver, CO
Pros: The Vector is very light-weight and, unlike the Quantum 2, gives me enough room in the front for my (large) nose. The top-vents are positioned well and easy to operate with gloves on, and the mouth-vent lets in a ton of air. The optics are wonderful, and with a clean windshield I often forget that it's even in front of my eyes.
Cons: I'm not sure that the eyebrow-vents do anything at all (except make noise), and they're difficult to operate, so that's a feature I'd happily give up. Actually, the helmet gets quite noisy overall above a certain speed (50-55 mph), so good ear protection is a must. Also, in cold weather you can tell that the mouth-vent is not quite air-tight even in the closed position, and I wish the Vector had the same pull-out chin guard as other Arai models, as quite a bit of air seems to come into the mouth/eye area from there at higher speeds.
Sizing Info: Fits 1 size smaller
Additional Sizing Notes: Based on other Arai models I tried at local dealerships, I thought the Medium should/would fit perfectly; unfortunately, the Medium produced a nasty pressure point right in the middle of my forehead (despite fitting well around the cheeks and back of the head), so I had to exchange it for a Large.
Overall this is a great helmet, and I got an excellent deal from KD. It may not have all the bells and whistles that other Arai models have, but it's very light, ventilates well (almost a bit too well in cold weather), and balances very nicely on my head. Even after several hours on the Interstate on my "naked" bike, my head/neck doesn't feel tired or sore. The shipping process took a little longer than I expected, and I'm not sure if that's due to KD or Arai (as it seemed like the helmet had to come from Arai to KD, and then to me . . .), but otherwise I was happy with but the buying experience, including the relatively hassle-free exchange process. I'll certainly keep KD in mind for any future bike-apparel shopping.
