Dainese Stivale Axial Race - Carbon/Kevlar
Average Customer Rating: 4.0 out of 5 (based on 4 ratings)
D-TEC (Dainese Technology Center) presents the new 2005 Series of Axial boots equipped with the famous protective system developed with assistance from both the best pilots on the Grand Prix circuit (Valentino Rossi, Max Biaggi, etc.) and Dr. Costa's Mobile Clinic. Axial is an internal structure inside the boots with a special articulation system that limits the twisting of the ankle that might otherwise cause sprain and trauma. Axial envelops the foot and the ankle completely for the best defence against impact that is absorbed immediately by distribution throughout the entire structure. The efficiency of this solution has been proven by harsh testing during competition and even improved in terms of ergonomic comfort. The Axial 2005 Series also offers new colours and a new fitting system that features just one rear zipper instead of two. The upper part of the boot has also been changed by introducing elastic D-Stone™ fabric and leather to ensure optimum wearability and make putting the boot on quicker and easier. The RACE Version is a faithful reproduction of the boots worn in competition by Valentino Rossi. The inner carbon and Kevlar shell is similar to the one used in previous seasons in the D-Axial boot, while the tightening system for the top of the foot is more enveloping and ergonomic. Compared to its predecessor D-Axial, the upper part of the boot has changed been: the use of elastic D-Stone™ fabric ensures ensure better adhesion to the ankle and permits perfect attachment of the boot above the suit. The presence of just one zipper at the rear makes putting the boots on quicker and easier.

Pros: Let me just start off by saying if you own a Dainese 1 piece suit, you really owe it to yourself to get these boots. They work in conjuction with their velcro "boot to suit" system like no other.
Beautiful understated styling, trick bits like titanium sliders and carbon fiber armor, and superb ankle protection. Additionally the comfort is amazing. It's as if you're in a pair of armored slippers. Aside from the $900+ Daytona race boots, these really offer the best protection in terms of lateral movement.
This is where Dainese has other high end race boots trumped. Try moving/squeezing the top portion of the boot side to side. It's impossible. Total protection in this area as well as the fragile toe section.
Cons: It may be difficult to fit under some leathers. The heel protection could use work.
Sizing Info: Fits true to size
Ankle protection is a must for motorcycle racing, canyon carving, or anything associated w/ high speed motorcycle riding. As the old adage goes, "you get what you pay for". In this case, compared to the Daytonas, the Dainese are a bargain!

    Comfortable, but poor design |
By Gian from Maine, USA on 10/22/2007
Pros: Very comfortable, with a much better range of motion than the Oxtars. Premium materials (titanium sliders and carbon construction). Very stylish boot. Interfaces with Dainese suit-to-boot system
Cons: Not as much support as Oxtars or other top-of-the-line race boots. Not designed to withstand a crash. After a single low-side, the entire side of the boot was ripped open, rendering the boot useless. The decorative metal piece on the outside of the ankle pulled the whole thing apart. Needless to say, I was very disappointed to spend so much on a boot only to see it destroyed after one crash. Totally unacceptable. Contacted Dainese, but they do not fix boots.
Definitely not up to the standards of racing. Maybe if you are a pro (Valentino) and get all your gear free, you can warrant a piece of equipment that only lasts one crash. The impression I got from Dainese was that this was totally acceptable in their opinion.
Honestly, I think the Torque boot might be better designed to withstand a crash. Can't recommend these boots.
Sizing Info: Fits 1 size larger
Additional Sizing Notes: I've been a size 43 in every boot I've owned including Dainese, Sidi and Oxtar. In these I take a 42.
