Dunlop Qualifier Performance Radial Rear Tires

Average Customer Rating:   4.0 out of 5 (based on 21 ratings)

  • Successor to the D209ZR sport radial.
  • Brings racetrack-level performance to the street with quicker handling.
  • Bigger footprints at all lean angles yield more grip and traction.
  • Use of the latest compounds allows a significant area increase in the tread pattern for improved grip.
  • The Qualifier heats up faster and is stickier than the D208ZR.

Less than 2,300 miles ruined a perfect 5 score...

By RacerX from San Marcos, TX on 07/01/2008

Pros: I had no feed back issues, no warm-up issues, and actually loved riding on these tires. There were even two seperate times I went into corners out of shape and for the life of me couldn't understand how the FRONT didn't wash out. Great traction. The rears inspired confidence as well. Only one negative: less then 2,300 miles & I'm seeing threads...new tire time...

Cons: I do NOT do burn outs, but do ride very aggressively in the hill country (more accurately described as an asphalt roller-coaster). Very few track days (two four hour sessions). The back tire is toast, and the front will need replacing soon. Is this a con? or am I expecting too much from a tire? I guess I'll find out with my next set of tires. Having a hard time deciding on the Michi's or the Pirellis...I'll try to come back and do a comparison review after I make up my mind and wear them out.

 Dunlop Qualifier

By Lee from British Columbia, Canada on 04/29/2008

Pros: I've ridden Dunlops for a few years and found these a huge improvement over their predecessors. Feedback and predictability were great at any lean angle. Turn in felt a little quicker too, but that could be the placebo effect of having a new set of tires. I got a good 5000km from these tires before they were pretty shagged, which is not too bad.

Cons: For not being a dual compound tire I found the edges showed more wear then I would have expected, even with hard street riding. Maybe I ran the pressure too low. However, even with sides wearing as much as they did the remained predictable.

Good tire, but cowers to competition

By Davey from Santa Monicaland, USA on 04/10/2008

Pros: I've only used this tire as a rear paired w/ a D208, but after use I would never use it as a front nor a rear. -Warm up quick, even for a street sport tire. -Wear is fair, 3500-4000 miles for me. -Handling is very predictable...sucks every time. -Cheap -Mid-tire wear is fair while handling engine braking well. -I don't ride hard in the rain, but they get me from point A to B as well as anything else in wet.

Cons: I ride aggressively and tend to engine brake and steer w/ the rear as well. These tires limit my riding before comparable brands do, I find myself comfortable at about 10% less speed in corners than other sport tires let me go. Dunlop obviously wishes aggressive riding to be done on their D208s and not their D209s. Feel at 80% lean is fair. Feel at 90% lean is not inspiring. Rear tends to cut loose at extreme lean. Sounds like an obvious progression but when I ride say Pirelli Corsa IIIs, I'd say that they feel fair at 80% lean, excellent at 90%, and positively evil at extreme lean.

Comments: -Name another sport tire, it's better, albeit habitually more expensive. But tell yourself this, "I shod out thousands of dollars for a sportbike instead of a scooter. Probably even loads for... (Read the rest of this review)

 Dunlop Qualifier

By Richard from So Cal on 12/18/2007

Pros: Great tires, i ride hard on the weekends and just take it easy most of the time during the week. I put 11,000 miles on my set on these in 5 months. They bailed me out of a few bad breaks. Great feedback, and breaking power. They slipped twice due to dirt on the road, and b4 i can even react they catch again and i am on my way. 11,000+ miles and not ONE FLAT or significant loss in PSI. I hear the Corsa 3s are great, but i cant see myslef switching after i have had these.

Cons: None i can think of.

 Carl Cassell

By Carl Cassell from Cuy. Falls, Ohio on 11/14/2007

Pros: At the begining of 06 riding season mounted Qualifiers on a 03 CBR600RR and rode approximatley 1000 miles on tracks in Ohio. Tires heated up quickly, gave good grip and wear, and for being used mainly on the track, riding in A group, it was surprising how well they lasted. The sides wore out quicker than the middle of the tire - but this was due to riding mainly on a track and going thru curves. Mounted a 2nd set at the begining of 07 season, with the same results. Can't find fault with the tires.

Cons: None.
