    Stable Spools |
By D. Marley from Kill Devil Hills, NC OBX on 11/02/2007
Pros: After viewing all the spools available on many web sites and KneeDraggers site, I picked the spools that appeared to have the most material on the outside ends, for the most lateral stability on the rear stand (Pit Bull Spooled Rear, from KneeDraggers, naturally). I wasn't wrong. The CNC'd aluminum spools are extremely light weight, and the 10 mm Stainless Steel allen bolts are truly beefy. Comes with one extension spacer of 8.0mm depth. The inner flange is 22mm diameter, the bearing surface for the stand is 14mm diameter, and the outer flange is 31.5mm diameter, making it very laterally stable while on a stand. The bearing surface is 5.1mm deep, with chamfers to the flanges, allowing a stand's spool forks to engage quickly and accurately (Pit Bull pool forks are 4.8mm thick).
Cons: Cons are hard to come by for this product... except for my choice of polished aluminum (very bright!) on my little green hellion. Shoulda got the black model.
These spools are strong enough for me and my bike while clowning about on the Pit Bull rear stand, testing out geometries for clip-ons, rear set elevations, etc. I can lean out on the side of the bike without any movement whatsoever from the stand or spools. Bike: 500 lb modded Kaw ZRX 1200R; Clown: 225 lb with full race gear on.
