Great grip, great look; there are cons however |
By Peter from Minneapolis, MN on 05/17/2008
Pros: +The grip (abrasiveness) is excellent
+Look very cool
+Easy to put on and take off
Cons: -Wear gloves faster than stock grips
+The grip (abrasiveness) is excellent. far better than the stock grips on a 2005 600rr. I feel more confident on the bike now, my hands just feel more connected with the bike.
+Look very cool; the gray diamond looks good. The uniform and simplistic overall design complements a supersport quite well.
+Easy to put on and take off; I used a water displacement fluid (such as PB Blaster or WD40) to remove the old grips. Just remove the bar end, stick the fluid straw in the grip and spray a couple squirts. Then twist the grip around to distribute the fluid; twist and pull to remove completely. Clean off handlebar with rag. To put on the grip, pour a little rubbing alcohol on the handlebar and spread it around, then twist the new grip on. Let the alcohol evaporate (10-30minutes) and you're good to go!
-I have Alpinestar SP2 gloves and the inside outer (pinky finger side) palm area has started wearing a little bit. It leaves little bits of material (leather or faux leather?) on the latter 1 inch or so the left grip. This may be a problem down the line, but for now, I'm not overly concerned.
+/- This grips are uniform in girth unlike most stock grips. The various OEM sportbike grips I have felt are tapered so that the middle is larger in diameter than the ends of the grip. In addition, the grips seem to be smaller in diameter than stock grips. I'm not sure if I like this yet or not, time will tell.
*Note, I believe that one grip has a larger inner diameter than the other, this one is the right (throttle) side grips. The throttle side should be slightly larger in girth than the left (clutch) side.
