STM Middleweight Slipper Clutch - Kawasaki ZX6R
Today's middleweight sportbikes perform like open-classers of a few years ago. This march of technology induced STM technicians to create the Evoluzione middleweight clutch. Compared to the 1000cc applications, STM's 600- class and GSX-R750 clutches have reduced-diameter 121mm Evoluzione primary springs combined with 85mm Evoluzione secondary springs. The primary, diaphragm spring replaces the helicoidal springs of the production clutch assuring a more uniform pressure on the disc pack. Furthermore, the digressive action of the spring reduces the strain on the lever.
The operation sensitivity of the system is guaranteed by an exclusive blockage system of the clutch on the drive shaft. Bearing rests and steel balls between the hub and the drum eliminate all static and dynamic friction for a maximum reactivity of the clutch group to the back-torque variations. The sensitivity of the Evoluzione system results in better performance in poor grip conditions. As with all STM wet-clutch systems, the clutch basket and disc pack remain stock.
