 Decent helmet for the price.

By Sung from Flushing, NY on 03/17/2007

Pros: This helmet has a lot of good features for the price.. removable inner pads, quick change visor, & the availability of an aero skirt. I've used this helmet for about 5000 miles of riding and the inner lining shows very little wear. One thing that broke after a few months was the little leather strap which buttons the leftover neck strap. I have had to sew that back on myself. The Aero Skirt is a very good addition for the helmet if you plan on doing any cold weather riding. It keeps a lot of the cold air out and also makes the helmet a lot quieter. However, once you stop moving, you'll have to open the visor or it'll start fogging.

Cons: The way Scorpion markets the quick change visor is a bit deceptive. The visor comes off w/o the use of tools, but it requires a bit of struggle. I own two of these helmets and it's consistant with both of them. One side snaps off easily, then the 2nd side is a struggle. However, the whole process still takes less than a minute. This helmet gets a bit hot during the summer. I think the ventilation could be a bit better. Also, before I added the aero skirt, there was a lot of whistling in the helmet during highway rides. It can get very annoying after a few minutes. The anti-fog shield works somewhat during wet rides, but it's not perfect. Also, it def fogs in the cold and even more so if you use the aero skirt. Again, you'll have to flip the visor open when you're at a stop.

Additional Sizing Notes: I got this helmet in a small size, and the inner padding is in three pieces. There is one that caps your head (forehead and back), and two cheek pads. The circumference of my head measures exactly 22", and the shape is very round (not long oval). After breaking in, I've had to tape some additional padding in front of the forehead, because the helmet would shift at high speeds. I have also changed the cheek pads to a medium size, and my face is a bit more comfortable now.

Overall, this helmet is a good deal. There are some nice features you normally don't get for this price. It's a bit heavier than some of the more expensive helmets, but the weight of the helmet hasn't bothered me a bit. Anyone who is interested in saving some bucks, should definitely take a look at the Scorpion Exo-700 before making their final decision.
